How Pearl Harbor Repeated Itself
In 1940 the winds of war were threatening but just how devastation could reach the US was unclear. World War II was well underway in Europe with the Nazis defeating English and French armies using the Blitzkrieg offensive strategy. With US shipping being torpedoed by German U-Boats right off the eastern seaboard and Gulf cost Admiral Durnetz was making sure that American supplies could not reach Great Britain in an effort to starve out the English and put an end to the last resistance to the Axis Power’s quest for total control of Europe.
Draining capability
The US Naval fleet in the Pacific was being weakened by the relocation of destroyers to the Atlantic and budget cuts by an ongoing isolationist trajectory by Congress. President Roosevelt was only allowed to supply Great Britain and later Russia through the Lend lease Act but unable to get US forces into theaters of war to aid what was left of the embattled League of Nations. The Pacific Fleet recently moved from San Diego to Hawaii could only train, send out search planes, and wait as intelligence seemed vague and insufficient to detect the point of hostility.
Chessboard of betrayal
Meanwhile based upon a reluctant Admiral Yamamoto’s drafted strategy to damage the US Pacific Fleet badly enough to initiate a treaty with the Americans in hopes of being able to expand the Japanese empire with oil resources and new conquests, a deadly game was being played. After already liberating the world in 1918 and suffering from the Great Depression, neither Congress or the American people had an appetite for the war in Europe or China as the Axis Powers wreaked havoc from across the oceans. Yet, US Naval intelligence worked feverishly on code breaking Japanese diplomatic channels trying to anticipate where a possible attack could occur.
Brewing tragedy
Admiral Kimmel and General Short in command of forces on Hawaii received mixed signals from Washington advising of an imminent threat, but unable to pinpoint just where the Japanese might strike. Little did either commander know that they were not getting the entire story and that the Code Breakers were tapping into the wrong source of intelligence. To make matters worse the structure of US Naval communication between Washington, headquarters, and the Pacific Fleet on the high seas was slow and inefficient at best. A recipe for disaster was fast unfolding.
Hidden threat
Admiral Stark in command of US Naval intelligence was receiving spotty communication traffic analysis from Japanese diplomatic cables. He even knew of a Japanese spy located on Oahu who was reporting on the Pacific Fleet’s daily maneuvers at Pearl Harbor to his superiors, but Admiral Kimmel and Army General Short had been kept in the dark. Stark who had promised Admiral Kimmel that he would be kept abreast of all developments intentionally withheld vital intelligence that could have alerted the fleet to a looming threat. Little did either man know as the game of oneupmanship was being played between Washington and Pearl Harbor command the Japanese were steaming toward Oahu maintaining radio silence and projecting the largest combined aerial and naval armada the world had yet seen on an ETA with destiny.
Deadly developments
Files discovered from 75 years ago reveal that the US Navy had determined that Pearl Harbor was not the safe haven from carrier plane torpedoes that they had once thought. Intelligence gathered from a successful attack by the British against a shallow harbor in Italy against Mussolini’s Navy had achieved a great RAF victory and a disaster for Italy. Using obsolete bi-planes to deliver torpedoes using a modified fin that allowed them to run on the surface rather than hitting the sea bed and exploding the problem had been solved. The Japanese had made note of this development and would use it to deadly effect. US Naval intelligence knew as well but Admiral Stark had not shared this information with Pearl Harbor command. According to retired Navy Admiral Lyons this was a grave error that made the difference between a lethal surprise attack and an alerted Pearl Harbor fleet that would have decimated the Japanese aerial attack and saved lives.
Modern similarities
The 9-11 attack on the Twin Towers 60 years later finds history repeating itself in a very lethal way. Shortly after the inauguration of President Bush competing US intelligence and enforcement agencies are withholding vital information that could save lives. Among the NSA, CIA, DIA, and FBI are intelligence files and identified terrorist operatives that are pointing to an impending attack on the US. Thanks to the previous blunders of President Clinton who in 1993 allowed Osama Bin Laden to be released after he had been captured in Sudan while Hillary Clinton and Eric Holder got the 5 terrorists acquitted who had bombed the World Trade Center that same year another disaster was unfolding.
Anatomy of an assault
In an uncanny string of events that many believe point to a false flag operation or at the very least indicative of a massive intelligence failure the Twin Towers are hit by what appear to be passenger planes flown by terrorists trained within the US at privately run civilian aviator schools. Like Kamikazes during World War II they fly their Boeing jetliners into the buildings causing massive structural devastation and the loss of more than 3,300 innocent US citizens. Building 7 also collapses by itself under suspect conditions just across the street from the Twin Towers luckily evacuated. Lengthy investigations will ensue while federal authorities much as in the JFK assassination attempt to quell allegations of conspiracy.
Birth of another tragedy
Once again, American complacency and inter-agency refusal to share vital intelligence results in the worst attack on American soil ever achieved by an enemy of the United States of America. The lessons of the past have been ignored and the staggering loss of life has resulted. Even today as terrorist attacks involving the deaths of US citizens are continuing as the federal government makes excuses and scolds its own citizens for naming the source of those attacks-radical Muslims. CAIR has been allowed to view FBI files and participate in the investigation of radicalized Islamic terrorists. Former Attorney General Eric Holder has forbidden the surveillance of Muslim Mosques where recruitment of operatives and networking of hostile communications are known to be transpiring. Within the nation’s capital, a president who refuses to verbally name the source of the aggression and lectures Americans on tolerance each time more innocent blood of Americans is spilled, obstructs efforts to stop the insanity.
Sum of all fears
Another Pearl Harbor-like tragedy in this day and age cannot be allowed to succeed. With a weakened US military, compromised law enforcement, and underfunded armed service operations through out a troubled world as our enemies rise emboldened by an inept White House and State Department disaster lurks on the horizon! When priorities are relocating unvetted foreigners on US soil who are no doubt harbouring ISIS in their midst and the biggest existential threat to the US military being determined as Climate Change as Iran ramps up its nuclear capability, Pearl Harbor may end up seeming like a fond memory compared to what waits America compromised from within.
